This course is designed for individuals who are required to operate utility type vehicles (UTVs) within agricultural, estate management, forestry, conservation, gamekeeping, grounds maintenance, land-based and rural working environments. Utility type vehicles are sit-in, side-by-side vehicles featuring fixed seating, a steering wheel and, where fitted, rollover protective structures (ROPS) and seat belts. The programme provides learners with the knowledge, practical skills and occupational competence required to safely inspect, prepare, operate, maintain and secure utility type vehicles in accordance with workplace procedures, manufacturer guidance and current industry best practice. Learners will develop competence through a combination of tutor-led theory, practical hands-on learning, supervised driving activities and workplace-focused scenarios designed to reflect real operational conditions. Emphasis is placed upon hazard identification, risk assessment, vehicle control, terrain assessment, load carrying, passenger management, attachment use, environmental awareness and safe operating techniquesThis course is designed for individuals who are required to operate sit-astride all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) within agricultural, estate management, forestry, conservation, gamekeeping, grounds maintenance, land-based and rural working environments. Successful completion of the course supports workplace competence in the operation of utility type vehicles across a range of rural and land-based activities where safe vehicle use is essential to operational efficiency and workforce safety. UTVs continue to play a significant role within the land-based sector; however, overturns, loss of control, unsuitable terrain, poor loading practices, improper passenger management and inadequate operator training remain significant causes of injury and fatality. Competent operator training is therefore an important control measure in reducing operational risk.
